The Georgia Instructional Materials Center (GIMC) is a special project of the Georgia Department of Education, Division for Exceptional Students. The GIMC works with local school systems, state education agency personnel, textbook publishers, and other public and private agencies to procure and produce alternative format educational materials such as Braille, large print, and electronic format textbooks for students with visual disabilities.

Project Services

  • Procurement of Braille and large print textbooks.
  • Procurement of materials from the American Printing House for the Blind.
  • Production of Braille and large print textbooks not available from any other source.
  • Coordination of Braille textbook transcription with the Atlanta Braille Volunteers and Georgia Prison Braille program.
  • Maintenance of the textbook and materials depository.
  • Distribution and tracking of books and materials loaned from the depository.
  • Administration of Federal Quota Funds from the American Printing House for the Blind (APH).
  • Annual registration of legally blind students with APH to access Federal Quota Funds.

The GIMC does not provide audio books.
